{ Tips to Fit in Fitness }

Posted on September 21 2016

I get it....you're tired, you're running everyone around all day, you're working in the home, you're working outside of the home, you're barely fitting in time to eat or sleep and feel like you're on empty while you laugh at the thought of fitting in a workout!   Falling into a fitness routine requires a well mapped out plan, discipline and consistency.  The quote "motivation gets you started, discipline keeps you going" is the kind of mindset I want to help you live out today as I share with you essential tips to fit in fitness--and by the way, these are helping me out too!

1. Exercise even if you only have 15 minutes to do it

When you're strapped down on time or just completely exhausted, a short workout is better than nothing. If you don't have time to get to a gym, do a cardio/weight combo circuit In your living room!  No weights? Stick to cardio, turn on your favorite music, and go!  A sample of a cardio circuit: 5 min warm up of choice, then into-- 1 minute jumping jacks--10 seconds rest--1 minute burpees--10 seconds rest-- 1 minute air squat--10 seconds.. Repeat until you run out of time!  Like I said, even if it's a short workout, you are better off then when you were dwelling on working out, and then didn't.

2. Invest in a fitness tracker such as a Fitbit or Polar Watch

Although they may not be cheap, they really help you move more, especially if you are the type of person who is motivated by goals.  Especially those of you who are working a desk job, you are likely not even close to the daily amount of steps you should be getting in.  ( You should be hitting 10,000 steps daily but if you're day consists of getting up in the morning, heading to your cubicle, walking to the bathroom, and then to your car at 5.. you are likely hitting 4,000-5,000 daily.. this makes a huge difference over time... keep moving! )

3. Mix up your routine

Do steady state cardio one day, yoga/pilates the next, interval training after that, and a light jog or walk the following day.  When your fitness routine doesn't bore you, you are more likely to stick with it.  This will help you as you are building your discipline and consistency within your growing fitness lifestyle. Remember to turn up the beat! Choose music that excites you and makes you want to work, you should see a difference in your workouts when you are pumped up!

4. Don't wait for an occasion to get in shape

If your motive for getting to the gym is for your wedding that is 6 weeks out and your goal is to squeeze your way into a dress, you'll kill yourself trying to meet goals that are unattainable and unrealistic.  Don't make yourself feel miserable over your lack of reaching a goal. Fitness isn't a quick fix, it is a lifestyle that you choose to work everyday.

5. Eat real food

You may develop the most legit workout routine ever, but if your diet doesn't follow, the results your waiting on may never show up. Clean up your diet and put significance on that. On occasion sweets, bread, and alcohol are meant for to enjoy in moderation, just remember moderation doesn't mean everyday.

6. Keep a workout + diet journal to stay accountable

The consistency, accountability, and honesty that comes with tracking your performance is hard to overstate.  What's measured is managed.

7. Build your own habits

What works for others won't always work for you. Don't be intimidated to try different things and see what sticks.  Test and retest until you have made working out a complete habit.

These tips have helped me make the decision to keep going and the willpower to not quit. You have it in you too! Discipline is a muscle, the more you use it, the stronger it becomes!  Here's to carving time to take care of YOU so that you can take care of others well.....I promise you will never regret a sweaty, close to puking, workout. Progress is slow day to day, but absolutely huge over time.   Get moving!
