{ Looking For Lovely }

Posted on May 31 2016

Annie Downs, the author of "Looking For Lovely" inspires us to collect the moments that matter, as she shares with us her journey to the same place.  Throughout the book, I felt like I was with her sitting in a coffee shop listening to her wealth of wisdom.  I could see lovely through her words, and she inspired me to find the lovely in my own life.

 This book is everything about finding hope in each relationship, adventure, friendship, experience, struggle, hurdle, and victory.  She pushes us to see Jesus in a different light, while inspiring us to daily seek hope + lovely in the everyday.  Annie encourages us to find how big God is, especially in the small + mundane.  I've been so inspired to seek Christ in different ways, in ways that I may have not seen Him before.  He is in each intricate detail of life.. Annie states this perfectly,  "We have to be collectors. We have to look around our lives and store up the sweet moments, the profound, the simple- the ones that help us to hold on and let our character build as we persevere."

She helps us see that there is beauty in the pain we experience, "If you aren't experiencing pain, you aren't experiencing beauty.  Darkness makes us appreciate the beauty of the light.  If you aren't allowing yourself to feel the hurt, sadness, loneliness, and disappointment this fallen world has to offer, you probably, aren't feeling the fullness of the joy and beauty the redeemed moments have to offer."  Pain might feel like our breaking point but it's not our ending point.  Beauty can be found in the breaking. It's our reminder that there is ultimate hope and joy at the foot of the cross + we are always welcome as we are.  He will redeem the good, bad + the ugly for our good.

Each chapter ends with a challenge to find lovely in a specific way, today i am sharing one with you that has spoken to my heart and encouraged me to pursue Jesus in different ways...I hope this encourages you too!    "Maybe the best thing you can do today is pause? Maybe you need a break on something, a little rest?  You've been trying to finish a project around the house- maybe take a thirty-minute break to play outside? You've been training for a marathon- maybe you should get a massage this week? Remember the mind of an athlete teaches us that to keep from quitting, you have to pause."

This book has refreshed my spirit + renewed my perspective on Jesus and how He moves in the everyday, and I am certain if you read this book you will feel the same!   Have you already read this book? How has it spoken to your heart?
