{ 5 Ways to Stay Motivated }

Posted on August 17 2016

"People often say that motivation doesn't last.  Well, neither does bathing, that's why we recommend it daily." -Zig Ziglar.  Ah motivation, it's so great when you have it, and so depressing when you don't.  If you have ever felt extremely motivated to reach a goal, but then lost your motivation and failed, you know how disappointing that feeling can be when you feel like such a failure! My goal is to try to avoid that feeling as much as possible, so i've figured out ways to stay motivated that have worked for me while i am in the process of reaching towards something.  Here are my top 5 tips:

1. Take It One Day At a Time

When you look to far in the future, it is dangerous. You are biting off way more than you can chew...and the mountain seems to big and way too unattainable. This is the zone where negativity and self doubt hang out, and no body has time for that!  The unrealistic expectations created will surely cause your spark to dwindle fast, thus creating frustration in reaching long term goals.

2. Watch/ Listen To Something Inspirational

Nothing fires me up more than watching an inspirational video on youtube, or listening to a podcast.  Even an inspirational song can pump me up when i'm not feeling motivated. So many great options out there to choose from, find your favorite style and when you're feeling lazy, play it!

3.  Create A Vision Board

A vision board is a tool that is used to help clarify, concentrate and maintain focus on a specific goal.  These boards effectively help you to:

 - Identify your overall vision and give it clarity

 - Reinforce your daily affirmations { as well as positive thoughts about yourself }

- Keep your attention on your intentions + promises to yourself

4. Make S.M.A.R.T goals { Smart, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time Bound }

The simple act of setting goals improves our experience and our performance, studies also show that we are happier when we are progressing towards our goals... Setting goals allows us to focus on what we want.  Outlining S.M.A.R.T goals, which are essentially more effective goals, will surely set you up for success!

5. Reward Yourself

When you reach a goal, no matter how small, you need to reward yourself! It doesn't have to be big or significant, but celebrating your achievements will help you see the value that you are putting forth and will motivate you to the next goal.

6. Don't Compare Yourself To Others

At some point in life, wether you like to admit it or not, you compare yourself to others, and gauge where you are at based on what you see them doing. As we know, comparison is the thief of joy, and there is never a winning scenario.  How often do you compare yourself to someone less fortunate and consider yourself blessed? It's easier to compare our lives to someone who you perceive as being more, doing more, or having more. Instead of living in a false reality that others have it more together than you, redirect the comparison to your past and present self, and track your progress over time.

 We hope these tips were encouraging to you today + inspired you to continue chasing your dreams! What would you add to this list? Are there any specific things you do to stay motivated? Let me know in the comments!
